Things to See and Do Bang in the centre of classic Lake District, Honister offers a unique day out for visitors of all ages, perhaps not for the faint hearted. Entry to the visitor centre is free and, with ample parking for cars and mini buses, we are well equipped to cater for groups both large and small. Quality refreshments are available at our Ski Hi Cafe plus you can spend time browsing through our gift shop and showroom, where you can pick up anything from a house number plaque to an elegant slate water feature for your garden. At the rear of the works is our stone garden, which demonstrates the value and beauty of Westmorland Green Slate as a decorative building material. Painstakingly built by our owner, Mark Weir, the garden features stone tables, an obelisk, a fountain, a slate paved terrace and much more. It’s a lovely spot for a picnic and an ideal vantage point from which to view some amazing Lake District. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can see the mines at first hand by taking a guided underground tour or try out our new Via Ferrata and if, after all this, you discover that you’re beginning to share our love of slate, then don’t leave without taking advantage of our ‘Fill Ya Boot’ offer (as much slate as you can fit in your car boot for just £10!) |
