Traffic delays in Keswick!!

With all the recent traffic delays in Keswick, this is resulting in confusion of the best route to take, when travelling to Honister and Borrowdale!
To help to improve your journey, we have posted the following maps which will hopefully make your journey a more pleasant experience!

Travelling from Windermere - A591
Windermere to Honister
From Windermere follow the A591 to Keswick and as you commence dropping down the steep hill, with Derwentwater in front of you, there is a sharp right bend, on the main road. 500 yards after that take the first left sign posted "Castlerigg Manor" into Ambleside Road. Go straight on down the hill until you see "Borrowdale" turn left into Derwent Street. With George Fisher's at the end of Derwent Street turn left onto Borrowdale Road (B5289), then continue 9 miles to reach Honister along the Borrowdale Valley!

To return to Windermere
We suggest that you turn left over Grange Bridge to Portinscale. Using the map below turn right onto the A66, straight on at the Keswick roundabout sign posted "Penrith" and take the next exit sign posted "Windermere".

Travelling from Penrith - A66
Penrith to Honister
From Penrith follow the A66 towards Keswick, keep going along the A66 by-pass past Keswick until you reach Portinscale, turn left at the Portinscale junction, drive through Portinscale following signs for Grange. Once at Grange drive through the village and over the bridge, after the bridge turn right onto the Borrowdale Road (B5289) and carry on for a further 5 miles.

Travelling from Cockermouth - A66
Cockermouth to Honister
From Cockermouth follow the A66 towards Keswick, when you reach the Portingscale junction turn right, follow the road through Portinscale following signs for Grange. Once at Grange drive through the village and over the bridge, after the bridge turn right onto the Borrowdale Road (B5289) and carry on for a further 5 miles.
